L.H.S. SCHOLARSHIP BULLETIN May-June 2011 Edition

SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

The Scholarship Bulletin is a monthly publication which lists various scholarships available for the upcoming academic year. Please read it carefully and determine scholarships for which you qualify; be sure to follow the specified deadlines for each scholarship. Applications are available in the Guidance Office; fill them out neatly and completely and return to your guidance counselor. The Scholarship Bulletin will be posted monthly in the senior English classes; they will also be available on the LHS Website.

#37 – Ocean County College Foundation

The OCC Foundation is offering scholarship opportunities to graduating seniors who will be attending Ocean County College in Fall 2011. All applicants with a GPA of 2.0 or higher will be considered. The amount of the award will depend on your financial need and current GPA. NJ STARS students are not eligible unless they are taking more than 18 credits. Deadline: May 27, 2011

#43 – David Ascione Memorial Scholarship (for students attending OCC)

The David Ascione Memorial 200 Club Scholarship is open to members of police or fire departments or first aid squads, their spouses and their dependent children. You must submit an essay (see application for essay question) and a recommendation letter. *Note: this scholarship is only open to students attending OCC in the fall of 2011. Deadline: June 10, 2011

#44 – New Jersey Foster Care Scholars Program

This program is open to current and former foster, adoptive, and homeless youth who will be attending a college, vocational, or technical school next year. Qualifying candidates may be eligible to receive assistance with tuition & fees, room & board, books & supplies, transportation, computers and child care costs. Deadline: June 10, 2011

#45 – Ocean County Vocational Technical School Scholarships

This scholarship is for graduating seniors who will be starting a post-secondary program at Ocean County Vocational Technical School in the fall (students currently enrolled in the school are not eligible). You must submit a personal essay and two recommendation forms – see application for more details. Deadline: June 3, 2011

#46 – WiseChoice “Find the Right College” Scholarship Program

This program, designed to assist students in the college planning process, is open to all high school students who are legal residents of the U.S. and are graduating in 2011, 2012, 2013, or 2014. To be eligible, you must register at WiseChoice.com and complete college planning tasks to earn points. You must submit an online application at www.wisechoice.com Deadline: May 31, 2011

#47 – Jersey Coast Shark Anglers Scholarship Award

The purpose of this scholarship is to assist a high school senior who will be pursuing a college degree in the Marine Sciences, especially Marine Biology, Oceanography, or the Environmental Sciences. You must submit 3 letters of recommendation and a brief personal essay. See the application for essay question and other requirements. Deadline: June 10, 2011

#48 –Mahatma Gandhi Art & Writing Contest

This contest is open to all middle and high school students. You can submit an essay, song, poem, or work of art based on the following theme: “If we are to teach real peace in this world, and if we are to carry on a real war against war, we shall have to begin with the children.” See application for more details. Deadline: June 10, 2011
